How to glue a tile that has fallen off

Partial destruction of even new cladding is a fairly common situation, which can be caused by a number of objective reasons or non—compliance with the technology of laying tiles. But what to do if one or more segments of the cladding simply fell off? Is it really necessary to remove the decorative coating, and re-do the work on the entire surface? Fortunately, there are special materials and technologies that allow repairing damaged masonry with "little blood". We will tell you in more detail about how to glue the fallen tile and what materials to use today.

Preparation for work Before starting work, it is worth assessing the condition in which the rest of the cladding has been preserved.

To do this, carefully inspect the finish for tile lagging in other places, and also carefully tap the lining to identify voids. If in total the voids occupy more than 20%, you will have to remove all the glued tiles and do the lining of the base again. If the result of the inspection is satisfactory, you can start repairing the collapsed area.

Remove all pieces of detached tiles, plaster, remove the remnants of tile glue. Remove the old grout from the ends of the adjacent tiles using sandpaper or a knife. The plane where you will glue the tile should be smooth, without protrusions, cracks and other irregularities.

Teknorep cement compounds are used to repair major damages. This type of work should be considered preparatory, and it is worth sealing the irregularities with a cement mixture 3-4 days before laying the tiles. Otherwise, do not be surprised if the ceramics fall off again: to achieve the desired result, the repair compound must dry completely. Before laying the tile, you can treat the surface with a primer.

The tile fell off: how to repair After the preparatory work, you can proceed to laying.

For small and medium-sized ceramic tiles with a water absorption coefficient of 3% or more, the cement-based adhesive Teknofay C1T is ideal. It is widely used in ceramic cladding of vertical and horizontal surfaces in private residential premises, as well as in places with high traffic: hospitals, hotels, shopping centers.

The algorithm for repairing fallen-off cladding with Teknofay C1T glue is as follows:

  • knead the glue according to the instructions using a construction mixer;
  • on the wrong side of the tile, apply Teknofay C1T with a notched trowel with a layer slightly exceeding the level of the boundary tiles;
  • attach the ceramic to the installation site and press it down to the level of the whole lining;
  • excess glue that you squeeze out when pressing, remove with a dry clean cloth as soon as the tile is glued;
  • the time of the open layer is 20 minutes, so all the work should be completed in this time range; otherwise, scrape the glue off the surface and knead a new one.

Following these instructions, you can repair the partially destroyed cladding with your own hands. The adhesive has a high resistance to sliding < 0.5 mm, high adhesion and sufficient time of the open layer, which makes Teknofay C1T a convenient composition to work with. The readiness for operation after repair is 8 hours for vertical and a day for horizontal surfaces.
