Why Sorting Plastic Waste Is a Necessity, Not a Choice

Plastic is everywhere around us: in a bottle of water, a bag of bread, a yogurt package, disposable cutlery, containers and lids. We are used to it. It is light, durable and cheap. But this coin has a flip side - an ecological catastrophe that is growing every year.

Why is plastic one of the main environmental problems?

Plastic waste makes up to 50% of household garbage that ends up in landfills, rivers, forests and even oceans. And it decomposes, just a second, from 100 to 500 years, depending on the composition. But even after that, it does not disappear, but breaks down into microplastics, which end up in water, food and... our body.

According to the UN, about 8 million tons of plastic are thrown into the world's oceans every year. This includes bottles, bags, and packaging that could be recycled if we sorted them correctly.

What can and should be recycled?

✅ Suitable for processing:

  • PET bottles (water, soda)
  • plastic lids
  • detergent packaging
  • food containers (if clean)
  • plastic bags and stretch film (at some collection points).

❌ Not suitable:

  • foam plastic
  • plastic spoons and forks after meals
  • dirty packaging with grease
  • multi-layer packaging (for example, tetra-pak with foil inside).

Important: In order for plastic to be accepted for recycling, it must be washed and flattened if it is a bottle or a can. This saves space and makes further recycling easier.

Sorting plastic: the first step towards a clean future

If everyone starts sorting at least plastic, it will already be a huge contribution to the health of the planet. Plastic is recycled into:

  • sintepon (filling for clothes and pillows)
  • paving slabs
  • building materials
  • waste containers and outdoor furniture.

In addition, recycling plastic uses many times fewer resources than producing new plastic.

How to make plastic sorting easy?

It's very simple - start with a convenient sorting bag. No need to build complex schemes. The Budlea online store has yellow bags marked "Plastic" that:

  • strong enough for bottles and containers
  • have different volumes - 60 l, 110 l and 120 liters
  • bright and noticeable - you will definitely not confuse them with others

Place such a bag next to the main bucket and start throwing plastic bottles and packaging in. In a week, you will notice that the amount of regular garbage has decreased by half.

Plastic is convenient. But not when it pollutes the planet. Sorting is not about sacrifice, but about awareness. A little effort today = clean nature tomorrow.

Sorting is not difficult. It is difficult to live in a landfill. Sort plastic - breathe freely.
