Polyurethane Tile Adhesive

The days when ceramic tiles were glued to the wall using ordinary cement mortar are long gone, thanks to the invention of modern materials with high durability indicators. Paste—like ready-made adhesives based on polymers, they are also polyurethane adhesives, have recently become very popular. Today we will talk about the features and advantages of this type of material on the example of Teknofay 200 D2TE glue (Teknofay 200 D2TE)

Advantages of polyurethane adhesive Perhaps the main advantage of this category of adhesives is the possibility of gluing together different materials.

  • For example, the composition of Teknofay 200 D2TE is designed for gluing ceramics to drywall, plaster, OSB-plate and even paint (in cases where the paint holds well and the tile has a high absorbency). The composition is also suitable for laying thermal insulation boards.
  • The elastic paste-like texture makes adhesives such as Teknofay 200 D2TE convenient to work with, as well as very economical. The consumption is 1.5-2.0 kg/m2, depending on the type of work. The substance is supplied ready-made in a plastic sealed package, polyurethane adhesive is immediately ready for use and does not require dilution, unlike cement-based tile adhesive.
  • The paste-like essence does not slip off vertical surfaces, the extended open time is 30 minutes, which makes tile laying with Teknofay 200 D2TE even more efficient and easier.
  • Polyurethane adhesive is resistant to moisture, therefore it is optimal as a material for lining bathrooms, saunas and other rooms where increased moisture resistance is required.

Features of working with polymer-based adhesive Teknofay 200 D2TENaturally, this type of glue has its own characteristics, if the rules of application are not followed, the master is unlikely to achieve the desired result.

  •
  • It is possible to glue ceramic tiles using Teknofay 200 D2TE exclusively on a flat surface, cleaned of any contamination — this is the only way to achieve high adhesion. In the presence of cracks and irregularities, the plane is first repaired with special cement—based compounds - Teknorep 300 or Teknoself 500.Glue is applied to the tile with an even spatula, then a toothed tool is used.
  • After gluing, it is necessary to tap the tile with a rubber hammer.
  • Do not use paste-like tile adhesive for materials with low water absorption, such as granite.
  • After laying, the glue should dry completely, it is necessary to exclude the ingress of water on the tile for at least 10 days.

Following these simple rules of working with polyurethane adhesives, you can achieve maximum glue efficiency, which means durability and aesthetic appeal of ceramic cladding.
