Geotextile for road construction and repair
In this article we will tell you what an important role nonwovens play in the construction and repair of pavement.
The road is one of the most important elements of infrastructure. In recent years, traffic loads and speed limits have increased. The improvement of the road surface requires new technical solutions.
Crushed stone is usually used for road construction. The use of geotextiles is an indispensable point in the construction of roads where there is a clay base, peat, or waterlogged soils. In the absence of geotextile, crushed stone mixes with the ground, resulting in deformation of the road layer. Geotextile separates the layers and prevents mixing of crushed stone filling with soil. This allows you to maintain the original thickness of the filling and significantly increase the load-bearing capacity of the structure, prevents the destruction of the foundation.
Geotextile is an economical material that significantly prolongs the service life and increases the period of operation of asphalt concrete coatings. Geotextile is a reinforcing material that serves for the interlayer and reduces stress in the crack area. Due to this, the formation of cracks slows down by 3 times.
- Needle-punched geotextile from 200 density to 300, or thermally bonded from 150 density to 200 g/m is used for the construction of roads with medium loads and for parking of passenger vehicles.
- Geotextile 300-400 g / m is used mainly for roads with heavy loads (for freight transport, or for highways), during the construction of foundations of nuclear hydroelectric power plants, tank landfills.
- Geotextile 450-500 g / m is used for the arrangement of temporary roads. When constructing temporary roads, the surface is covered with a small layer of crushed stone of a large fraction, then geotextile is laid and another filling of crushed stone is made. This allows freight transport to pass to the construction site without difficulty.
Road repairs:
- Geotextile is used both for reinforcing old concrete pavement with new asphalt concrete, and for reinforcing longitudinal cracks and restoring the coating.
- Due to the properties of geotextile, bitumen is evenly distributed over the entire plane and provides an excellent layer of waterproofing.
