Geotextile under PVC membrane

Everyone knows that the construction of a roofing pie is under the constant influence of precipitation, temperature, UV radiation and aggressive environments. Therefore, the durability and reliability of the roof should be provided only with high-quality materials.

Currently, PVC membrane is widely used for the installation and repair of flat roofs. When installing such a roof, it is necessary to take care of protecting this fragile material from damage and contact with aggressive roofing materials. No other material can cope with this task better than geotextile. It is inexpensive and is used as a dividing layer between the layer of old roofing material and the new one being installed.

Due to its characteristics, geotextile has become an advantageous option for its use in roofing works:

  • resistant to high temperatures (-60 to 110 °C)
  • high tensile and compressive strength
  • resistant to acids and other chemically active substances
  • it is not subject to rotting and mold formation
  • long service life of operation

Under the PVC membrane, it is best to use thermally bonded geotextile, since its fibers are firmly fixed together and will not be wound on a drill or other fasteners during installation, which will allow the installation to be technologically accurate. Geotextile fabric is used with a density of 150 g / m.kv up to 300 gr/m.kv, depending on the base of the roof.

If it is necessary to protect the PVC membrane not only from the lower base, but also from damage by the upper layers, then the geotextile is laid on both sides of the membrane. Also, the geotextile web serves as a separating layer between the membrane and those materials that contain harmful substances for it, such as bitumen, resins, solvents, etc., which can disrupt the operational properties of the PVC membrane.

The technology of laying a geotextile layer under a PVC membrane is extremely simple if the following rules are followed:

  • Geotextile is mounted on a prepared base without protruding elements. If necessary, the old coating is dismantled.
  • The geotextile cloth is laid in strips with an overlap of at least 10 cm.
  • The overlaps of the separator are welded together with hot air in one pass or with the help of a construction stapler (with such a connection, the overlap must be at least 30 cm).
  • Observing all the above rules, the use of geotextile for PVC membrane will help to perform roofing work efficiently without unnecessary expenses!
