Geotextile: application

What is geotextile and where is it used? Geotextile is one of the types of geosynthetics that are widely used in world construction practice.

These materials consist of geotwebs – woven or non-woven fabric, which are made by needle-punched, thermally bonded (calendering) methods of polypropylene and/or polyester yarns.
Polypropylene fabric has a high resistance to chemicals, moisture and biodegradants. Geotextile does not rot and retains its properties for a long time even under the influence of aggressive media. The main functions of geotextiles are separation, protection, reinforcement, filtration and drainage.

How and where is geotextile used?
To answer these questions, first you need to highlight the main characteristics of this material.

Geotextile Properties:Geotextile is a material that can withstand heavy loads.

  • This allows you to use geotextile for reinforcement.
  • Significant elongation at break, that is, the material continues to perform its functions in case of damage.
  • The filtering ability, which is provided by the special structure of the material, provides excellent filtering ability.
  • Preservation of culverting abilities for a long time.
  • Resistance to acids, alkalis, mold, fungi, etc. Does not germinate by roots.

Application of geotextileRoad construction.

  •

In the construction of roads, crushed stone is most often used, which can sink after a while (especially on weak soils such as clay, peat, moistened soils), which leads to deformations of the asphalt pavement. With the help of geotextile, this problem is easily solved. Acting as a separating layer between multi-factional road materials. Geotextile significantly increases the load-bearing capacity of the structure and prevents the formation of ruts and the destruction of the road surface.

  • Paths and platforms for paving slabs.Geotextile is widely used when laying paving slabs on playgrounds and paths.

Geotextile holds a layer of sand and allows it to mix with a layer of rubble. This preserves the strength of the entire structure, and also does not allow weeds to germinate. And also, thanks to the excellent water transmission capacity, there will be no stagnation of water on the tile surface.

  • Waterproofing of the foundation. The geotextile layer separates the gravel and crushed stone embankment layer from the base (soil) and prevents their particles from mixing.

In addition, geotextile is used for drainage in the construction of the foundation, since this part of the building is most susceptible to the harmful effects of water. Drainage, as well as waterproofing of the foundation, are designed to protect the base of the house from groundwater and flooding of the basement.

  • Arrangement of reservoirs. When arranging artificial reservoirs, the main task is to protect the waterproofing membrane.

Geotextile is used for this purpose. It prevents water from flowing out and blooming. The geotextile web is laid under a layer of waterproofing, on top of it or on both sides for maximum protection. Geotextile is also used to strengthen the banks and slopes of rivers, reservoirs, etc.

This is not the whole list of geotextile applications. Based on its properties and functions, people use this universal material in various spheres of the national economy and construction.
