How to choose a location for installing a shower drain
The popularity of shower cabins without a pallet is growing every year. To implement this idea, you should think over the project and location in advance, since the ladder is mounted in the floor and the place for the shower is negotiated in advance.
If you are only doing repairs in a new building, the task is simplified. A scheme is being made with the placement of plumbing and connection to the sewer. In the living room, you need to remove the previous screed and make a new drainage.
The ladder can be installed in different ways, depending on the model:
The point ladder has a small size and is suitable for a medium-sized shower watering can. The shape of the case can be square, round, triangular. The square shape is very popular. For installation in the middle, a slope is made from four sides to the drain. This method requires effort and professionalism. You can choose a mosaic to make it easier to lay a floor covering or a small tile. Also, such a ladder can be installed in a corner or against a wall.
The linear ladder has a long rectangular body and high throughput, installed:
- in front of the shower stall door – a one-way slope is made. The slope from the bathroom space. There is no risk of water transfusion. For such placement, it is better to purchase a tray with a flange – a rectangular frame around the perimeter of the grid.
- at the entrance there is a one–way slope towards the shower. In case of overflow of water, the entrance may flood. The length of the channel must be from wall to wall.
- near the wall is one of the most popular options. The slope of the floor is made in one direction. It is convenient to mount the channel with a flange.
- installing the trays parallel to each other. A slope is made from both sides towards the shower area. The length of the two channels should also be from wall to wall. The only thing is, in case of an overflow of water, the entrance to the shower room may flood a little.
Wall-mounted trays are similar to linear ones, but they are mounted only in the wall. This is a novelty that has relatively recently appeared on the market. The sewer pipe is fed into the wall. This option is the hardest to install. In addition to the floor, the wall should also be redone. This is an expensive type of installation and is possible at the stage of repair from scratch or major reorganization.
If you want to place a water intake point in the corner, you can purchase a small triangular ladder. With proper installation, it will have a high throughput. A one-sided bias is made for it.
To create the right slope, special beacons are set up. The quality of the drain in the entire system depends on the correct installation of the ladder. The screed is done in two stages: the first time it is applied evenly and is a rough screed, the second time a slope is made towards the drain hole. The minimum slope level is 1 cm per meter. With a lower slope, the water will not drain quickly into the sewer.
You should also pay attention to the height of the linear tray. There are models in which the legs are not adjustable and they are cheaper, in others there is an adjustment. It is better not to save money and buy a suitable option, because raising the floor level in the shower depends on the height of the channel.
When installing the tray, the grid level should not be higher than the tile level. The thickness of the joints between the tiles is not more than 2 mm. Unlike a ladder with a rectangular or square grid, a round one will require complex tile cutting, so it is not popular.
In order for the ladder to coincide with the design of the room, it is necessary to choose its shape and type of lattice correctly. For example: You really liked a small square tile, and you want to buy it, the ideal option would be a square-shaped ladder. The only nuance when such an option may not be suitable is a shower system with an upper watering can "cascade", which will require high throughput and a small ladder may not cope with this task.
The shower channel provides a quick drain of water, has a modern look, is ideal for barrier-free shower areas.
Why overpay for an expensive shower stall if you can save money and install a ladder without a pallet. After all, you can create a shower area of almost any shape and visually expand the space due to the absence of a bulky pallet and a cabin frame. The cleaning itself is simplified. There is no need to clean the pallet from plaque and dirt, you should just wash the floor.
