Installing a shower drain in a barrier-free shower

Modern bathrooms are increasingly equipped with shower areas without a tray - so-called barrier-free showers. It is convenient, stylish and practical. One of the key elements in such a system is a "shower drain" , which ensures effective drainage of water and protects the room from flooding.

Why choose a barrier-free shower?

  • Aesthetics – the floor looks like a single surface, without bulky thresholds.
  • Convenience – easy to use for people of all ages, including people with disabilities.
  • Hygiene – easy to clean, less dirt accumulation.
  • Modernity – meets current interior design trends.

How to install a shower drain correctly?

1. Planning and choosing a ladder

Before starting work, you need to decide on the location of the ladder:

  • in the center of the shower area
  • against the wall (linear version)
  • in the corner of the room.

You should also consider the throughput capacity, the presence of a water seal (siphon), and the design of the grate.

2. Preparation of the base

The screed is made with a slope towards the drain (optimally 1–2 cm per 1 meter).
Waterproofing must be applied (bitumen mastic, liquid rubber or special mixtures).
At the place where the trap is installed, a hole is made for the siphon and a connection is made to the sewer pipe.

3. Installation of the ladder

The ladder body is installed at the level of the future floor.
A precise connection to the sewer system is made, all joints are sealed.
The tightness is checked (by pouring water).

4. Leveling the floor and laying tiles

The tiles are laid with a slight slope towards the grid.
It is important to ensure the correct level so that the water does not stagnate.
After laying, a decorative grille is installed.

Advice from experts

  • Use drains with adjustable height to easily adjust to the thickness of the tile.
  • Choose models with a dry or water seal, which reliably block unpleasant odors.
  • Pay attention to the quality of the material - stainless steel or high-quality plastic guarantee durability.
  • Don't skimp on waterproofing - it's the key to safe shower operation.

Installing a shower drain in a barrier-free shower requires care and compliance with technology. The correct choice and installation will ensure comfortable use, durability of the coating and protection from leaks.
