How to protect the facade
To protect the facade of the building from destruction, to preserve its attractive appearance for a long time and to preserve operational characteristics, resort to hydrophobization.
Hydrophobization is a modern technology for protecting the front of facades using special materials that prevent the destruction of the cladding under the influence of precipitation and efflorescence. To date, hydrophobization is the simplest, most effective and profitable way to protect cellular concrete walls or brickwork from moisture that penetrates into the pores and fills them.
How does moisture destroy facades?
From the humid air, moisture penetrates into the pores of the facade cladding. When the air temperature drops below 0℃, the water freezes, thereby exerting pressure on the pore walls. As the temperature rises, the moisture gradually thaws. When moisture is absorbed into the salts that are part of the cladding or wall materials, the masonry gradually collapses. Further, under the influence of solar heat, salts crystallize, as moisture evaporates from the pores.
Salt crystals form sufficiently large hydrophilic deposits that literally tear the masonry from the inside. This leads to a deterioration in the appearance of facades, the formation of cracks, flakes. If metal structures are present inside the cladding, corrosion gradually begins to destroy them.
How does the hydrophobizer work?
Hydrophobizers are water–repellent compounds that have excellent adhesion to the exterior cladding of facades. Such solutions consist of silanes, silicates, siloxanes or similar substances that can provide a high level of protection for the surface from moisture, frost and gases contained in the air. The impregnation is able to penetrate the pores by several centimeters, which guarantees effective protection from atmospheric phenomena.
After treatment with hydrophobizers, the facade will not get wet from rain and snow, which means it will be less polluted and easier to clean. The moisture-resistant facade retains heat in the building better. In addition, its frost resistance improves. A dry, clean facade is not susceptible to the formation of fungi and microorganisms, which also destroy building materials, and is also protected from the appearance of efflorescence.
