Waterproofing a bathroom under tiles
Regardless of the type of housing, whether it is an apartment or a private house, the microclimate in the bathroom in it will differ from other rooms. Due to the active use of cold and hot water, steam and condensate appear, so the humidity level in the bathroom is always much higher.
In the process of major repairs, we must not forget about the importance of implementing a set of measures to protect walls and floors from water exposure before finishing the bathroom interior. Poor-quality or insufficient waterproofing can lead to unpleasant consequences from the formation of mold, mildew and damage to ceramic tiles, up to a fire due to a short circuit due to moisture entering the electrical wiring.
Insulating moisture-repellent materials are used to perform high-quality internal waterproofing. According to the type of application, two main groups of such materials can be distinguished:
- Pasting – roll films, which are produced on the basis of resin (bitumen). They are glued or fused directly onto the surface that needs to be protected;
- Coating is a more practical and improved waterproofing format. The coatings are ready-to-apply packaged or dry formulations that need to be mixed with water in the recommended proportion. Bitumen-rubber and polymer mastics are applied with a tool to the surface to be treated, on which tiles will be laid in the future. After complete solidification, a finishing finish is carried out.
Bathroom waterproofing technology
Before waterproofing, it is necessary to carry out preparatory work to eliminate damaged areas of the surface – irregularities, cracks, places of entry of communications, etc. For this purpose, special repair mixtures Teknorep 300 and Teknorep 300 EX can be used.
After the preparatory work, you can start applying waterproofing materials, following the following sequence of actions:
- We ground the prepared and cleaned surface to ensure a high adhesive ability of waterproofing with the base. The Izoplast E Nano Power acrylic deep penetrating primer is suitable for this;
- After that, it is necessary to coat the corners of the joints of the walls and floor with waterproofing along the width of the tape to seal the seams. Next, the Teknomer Pah Band 120/70 tape itself is glued, after which it must be covered with a layer of waterproofing. In the areas where communications are entered, special sealing cuffs must be used, which are also sealed with tape;
- After sealing the corners and joints with tape, a waterproofing elastic membrane is applied, which can be used as a waterproofing elastic coating Izoplast Hydrolastic, or a water-based polymer acrylic membrane Izoplast FH Special or Teknomer 300.
- The Izoplast Hydrolastic waterproofing compound is two–component - it consists of a polymer emulsion and a dry fine mixture. When applied to the surface, the composition forms an elastic seamless coating with high strength. After the composition is completely dry, you can start laying tiles.
By adhering to the technology of using materials, you will receive maximum protection and will be confident in its reliability and durability. And if you still have questions, call us, we will help you with the choice of materials and give advice on their use.
