Drainage geomembrane
Geomembrane, profiled membrane, spiked membrane, drainage membrane or, as they say "in the people" Isolate – all this is about a waterproof film, on one side of which spikes are knocked out.
Spiked geomembrane is a modern material of a wide range of applications, the main task of which is to protect buildings from water, moisture and condensate, as well as to protect insulating materials (waterproofing and thermal insulation) from mechanical damage.
First of all, the spiked membrane is used as a material for water drainage and waterproofing protection. Geomembrane can be used independently or together with geotextile.
The spiked membrane has a wide range of applications:
- foundations of private houses
- floor slabs
- retaining walls, blind spots
- exploited roof and terraces
- industrial buildings
- road construction
- alternative to concrete preparation
- construction of underground structures (tunnels, pipelines, subways and underpasses, parking lots, basements, etc.)
Functions of the profiled geomembrane
- The spike-shaped membrane perfectly protects the foundations of houses from steam and moisture, and also creates an excellent drainage system. Profiled membrane is an indispensable material for protecting the layers of waterproofing and thermal insulation from mechanical damage during free filling of the soil.
- The geomembrane laid between the ground and the base protects the premises from moisture from below, thereby protecting the foundations and walls from damage and destruction from the effects of water.
- Also, the use of a profiled membrane in laying floors and interstory floors is an excellent means for insulation, performing an additional function of noise insulation, due to the presence of a cellular membrane structure that leaves an air space between the layers.
- The use of a spiked membrane in road laying and concrete preparation will significantly save time and money, while increasing the reliability of the foundation.
Installation of profiled membrane
The installation of the spiked membrane is easy, fast and simple, requiring no special knowledge and skills, as well as preliminary surface preparation. The surface on which the geomembrane will be attached must be clean and smooth (without bulging fittings, potholes, chips). The geomembrane is laid 10 cm above the ground filling level, with spikes to the wall (in case of self-use), or with spikes from the wall (in combination with geotextile). Next, the geomembrane is fixed with nails with a wide cap or with a plastic washer, in 30 cm increments (3 fasteners per 1 square meter), the membrane is connected to each other by overlap, spike into spike, with a width of at least 10 cm (4 spikes). For tightness, the joints are glued with butyl rubber tape or mastic.
Types of spiny membrane
Depending on the purpose, geomembrane of different densities is used: 400, 500 or 600 g/ sq.m. And also of various types: with or without geotextile. Depending on your facility and the environment.
