Causes of concrete dusting
Concrete is one of the most common building materials used for the construction of houses, bridges, roads, and is widely used in industrial and domestic construction. Nevertheless, many are faced with the problem of dust formation on the concrete coating, which creates additional inconveniences, for example, in industrial workshops or other rooms with concrete floors. In this text, we have considered the causes and solution of the problem with dust from concrete.
Why is concrete dustingDusting of concrete can have different causes.
One of them is an insufficient amount of water when mixing the mixture for pouring.
- If the mixture was too dry, over time, small cement particles begin to "spill out" of the concrete. In addition, if abrasive tools are used in the finishing of the concrete surface, it can also create a certain amount of dust.
- The second reason is the wear of the structure, which cannot be avoided. Unfortunately, even properly mixed concrete begins to collapse over time, which leads to the formation of dust first, then cracks, chips and deep damage.
How to avoid dusting of concrete The problem with concrete dust is solved through the use of modern materials, which are used when mixing concrete, or they are no longer covering a new screed.
There are several building materials that can be used to reduce the dusting of concrete:
- Additives to the concrete mix. At the construction stage, plasticizers such as Teknoflow Super can be included in the composition, which increase the plasticity of concrete, reducing its tendency to dust. In addition, water-soluble polymers can be used, which also increase the plasticity of concrete and reduce the amount of cement in the mixture.
- Coatings to protect the concrete surface. Polyurethane coatings allow you to achieve a durable and smooth surface that can withstand heavy loads. This avoids the wear and dust release of concrete.
- Hardeners. These compositions are liquid ready-made mixtures based on sodium or lithium silicates and are used on top of the concrete plane as hardeners.
- Polypropylene fibers. These particles serve as reinforcement of the mixture and at the same time are dust collectors. They also increase the strength of concrete, which helps to avoid wear and reduce dust generation.
The use of these materials makes it possible to reduce the dust formation of concrete and obtain a better and safer material for the construction of various facilities.
