Bentonite cord – what is it?

Bentonite cord is used to seal process joints in concrete. Bentonite cord consists of 75% bentonite clay, which, when in contact with water, tends to swell and increase in volume, thus filling even minimal cracks, joints, chips or voids. Since it fits in a narrow space of joints or seams, this allows the swollen cord to provide reliable sealing.

Where it is applied:

Bentonite cord can be used for waterproofing of any vertical or horizontal working seams, places of entry of communications and various holes in concrete.

Bentonite cord is used both in civil and industrial construction for sealing joints in foundations, tunnels, basements, underground structures, swimming pools, fountains, wells, sewers, etc.

Another advantage of bentonite cord is that no special knowledge or equipment is required during its application. The method of application of this product is simple and clear, it does not take a lot of time and effort.

The working surface is thoroughly cleaned of large debris, as well as fine dust. Bentonite cord and roll out directly to the place of the sealed seam. For a more reliable fixation, a special reinforced fastening mesh is used, which is fixed with dowels-nails on concrete. You can start pouring concrete.

The cord is environmentally friendly and does not emit harmful components into the external environment.

Types of bentonite cord:

• Size 10x20 mm – suitable for waterproofing joints if the thickness of concrete is from 200 to 250 mm.
• Size 15x25 mm – if the thickness of the concrete wall increases, and the task is to isolate the wall with a thickness of more than 250 mm, then voids, chips and microcracks will be proportionally increased in it, so the cord cross-section will need large sizes.
• In the case when the water pressure is very high or when working in an aggressive chemical environment, as well as for concrete structures with a thickness of 400 mm, an enlarged bentonite cord with a size of 20x30 mm is used.
• Separately, you can select a bentonite cord with a size of 5x20 mm – it is used for sealing communications. The cord is wrapped around the pipe and sealed with a repair compound.
• The round bentonite cord has a diameter of 22 mm, great for sealing holes in concrete from tie screws and studs.
