Repair mixes for concrete: types and applications

Like any other material, concrete is destroyed under the influence of aggressive environmental factors and operating conditions. Even in the case of the correct composition of the mixture and compliance with technology during construction, over time, the concrete structure begins to crack, dust and react more strongly to temperature changes. Therefore, special repair compounds are used to repair and maintain the appropriate condition of concrete, we will talk about the types and fields of application in more detail today. 

Scope and types

Before starting to repair a concrete structure, it is necessary to evaluate the following parameters: 

  • type of damage — solid hole, crack, pothole
  • localization area, it is worth considering on which surface the repair is planned, vertical or horizontal
  • size and features defects (depth, scale, quantity)
  • conditions in which the object under repair is operated

For example, the repair mixture Teknorep 300 has polymer fibers in its composition, which allows it to be used for the repair of various types of concrete and reinforced concrete structures (with a depth of up to 40 mm). It is used to strengthen and increase the bearing capacity of structures, repair after removing the formwork, leveling the plane before applying waterproofing, as well as for minor repairs. 

Types by layer thicknessConcrete repair mixes are applied in different layers depending on the selected composition.

 It can vary from 2-10 mm to 10-150 mm. The most extensive and popular group of repair mixtures are applied with a thickness of 3-10 mm and 10-60 mm. This includes self-leveling, self-leveling mixtures, materials for repairing horizontal planes. At the same time, vertical repairs are carried out to a depth of no more than 40 mm in one layer.
