What is a shower channel
The shower channel is a rectangular ladder consisting of the upper part: a decorative stainless steel grate, a filter grate for draining, capable of detaining large debris, a special shutter that detains odors and a special body with a tap connected to the pipeline with a special adapter.
Such a shower channel is made of stainless steel or reinforced polypropylene, having a thickness of more than 1.5 mm. Depending on the selected material, the service life, its durability and strength depend. Also, during installation, the main role will be played by its bandwidth. It should be 0.5 – 1.2 liters per second.
What are the types of shower channels
Depending on the material from which the shower ladder is made, the installation location will be revealed.
That is why shower channels are divided into the following:
- Shower ladders without flange CLASSIK LINE. They have a stainless steel case and a plastic case. They are usually mounted in the shower area (wall, passage or perimeter). This option is very simple and inexpensive.
- Shower channels with a horizontal flange. The flange itself is made of stainless steel or polypropylene, glued with a special sealed tape for better insulation and sealing. They are well mounted in the shower area at the exit, they can additionally have a rotary siphon that facilitates installation.
- Shower channels with a vertical flange. This option is well suited for mounting into the wall, and the flange itself acts as a guide for laying tiles and joining the wall. Thanks to this, the waterproofing properties are improved. But this type of installation requires a slope along the entire height of the shower tray to the drain hole.
How the shower channel is mounted
After the shower channel has been selected, it is necessary to study in detail the possibility of its formation. This work can be entrusted to specialists or performed independently, if certain rules are followed.
The sequence will be as follows:
First of all, it is necessary to determine the area that the shower area will occupy. It can be the following sizes: 120x120, 100x100, 90x90, 100x140, 100x120, 90x140, 90x120, 90x100, 80x140, 80x120, 80x10.- After the place for the shower area is allocated, it is necessary to choose the place where the shower channel will be installed, as well as its length. The trays have a length of 20 to 80 cm. This size is selected individually depending on the size of the shower area. The following factors are also taken into account – the frequency of use of the shower, the amount of water will be passed, the type of connection to the sewer, the diameter of the pipe and the design solution.
- To improve thermal insulation, you can use special polystyrene foam plates, pour them with a cement-sand mixture.
- A damping tape is placed around the perimeter for reliable sealing and compensation of the expansion of the screed when the temperature changes.
- Also, do not forget that waterproofing is also important. For example, you can use a waterproofing elastic mixture Teknomer 200 EX Crystallized.
- After that, the tray itself is installed and connected to the ventilation duct and sealed.
- After installation, the floor is filled with a screed and tile is laid.
