Installation of a bentonite cord for sealing the entry points of communications
This article will explain in detail the algorithm for installing waterproofing using a bentonite cord.
The text provides step-by-step instructions for the relevant installation work, contains additional information detailing the features of this process and provides a list of models of concrete cords of standard parameters with the specifics of their use.
Installation sequence
A bentonite cord allows to ensure the tightness of the input of communications. The installation of this element includes several stages.
- They cut out a strob in the wall. This recess should surround the collateral sleeve.
- The input surface is cleaned of debris, dirt and dust. It must be dry, and all the elements of the joint must be thoroughly cleaned.
- To create a ring, the sleeve is wrapped with a cord, which at this time increases in size, swelling. At this stage, you can give preference to the bentonite hydrostop Sanpol or the acrylic analogue Hydroflex. Simultaneous use of these two materials is also possible, but in this case attention to their differences is necessary. The bentonite cord ring is placed on the input surface so that the space between the cable or pipe and the input wall is closed.
- Check the ring coverage density of the pipe or cable – the connection should be stable, but not too tight.
- The surface surrounding the sleeve is pre–moistened - water is applied to it.
- The space around the cord is filled with a repair mixture Teknorep 300 EX or other material that does not shrink and has thixotropic properties. A suitable composition is used to provide additional sealing.
- Teknomer 100 penetrating waterproofing is applied to the concrete surface around the system entry points. This stage is the final one.
With a significant diameter of the input, several annular layers of cord are resorted to. This method of installation of bentonite material helps to obtain the most reliable tightness.
Specifics of the work: important points
Installation of waterproofing walls of monolithic concrete structures, such as foundations, includes three basic stages
The first is surface cleaning, the next is local repair work, and the final stage consists in applying a layer of waterproofing and protecting it.
In the past, it was practiced to close prepared strobes during junctions using non-shrinkable single-component repair mixtures of increased strength and adhesion. Teknorep 300 EX and Teknorep 300 composite materials reinforced with polymer fibers were most often used for this purpose. Sometimes, as a result of this method, water still leaked – in such situations, a Teknoplug or Teknoplug Yildirim hydro seal is used to eliminate leakage.
The dry and pre-cleaned surface was treated with a single layer of Izoplast R bitumen-rubber primer. When this material was completely dry, it was covered on top with bitumen-rubber mastic, using a brush or a spatula. The purpose of the corresponding mixture is the bonding of Izoplast MEGA-TEX with two layers arranged perpendicular to each other.
After drying of two layers of bitumen insulation material, polystyrene foam was glued in the direction from bottom to top. At the same time, they also used a similar bitumen-rubber mastic, applying it point-by-point. The mixture was applied approximately 6-8 points on each slab, and then the slabs were pressed against the concrete.
Features of waterproofing coating protection
A spike-shaped membrane will help to protect styrofoam plates immediately after gluing. According to experts, if there is a need for a high degree of protection, it is better to give preference to a spiked membrane with geotextile.
The rolls of the corresponding material are fastened together with the help of sealants-tape K2. Do this by placing the edge of one roll on the other by about 15 cm and attaching a pressure bar on top.
